Two-day, on-site course designed for beginners to astrophotography. Includes daytime instruction and nighttime photo shoots.


Learn how to produce stunning photos under the dark skies at McDonald Observatory! This workshop is designed for beginners to astrophotography, or photography of any kind. The daytime portions of the program will consist of the basics of astrophotography, and the nighttime portions will consist of putting these tools to use. Lodging is not included, but attendees will have the option of booking a room at the on-site Astronomer’s Lodge or at an offsite location. Dinners are included in the program price. Participants must bring their own equipment. Evening sessions are scheduled to end at midnight, but participants may stay longer to capture additional images.

Behind the Scenes at HET

  Go behind the scenes at one of the world’s largest telescopes! This special access tour of the Hobby-Eberly Telescope is co-hosted by a member of the telescope’s engineering staff and visits the telescope’s dome floor. General admission to the Visitors Center is included. Duration is approximately 75 minutes. Transportation from the Visitors Center to the summit of Mt. Locke is provided.
