A Magical Stay in New Zealand
Review by Zimin, Nick, Weixin and Guan on 4/25/25, 7:34 AM
This is An Experience WeâÂÂll Cherish Forever! Right from the moment we booked LeanneâÂÂs Cubby Farm Stay in Kaikoura, we had a good feeling about itâÂÂand it absolutely exceeded all expectations. Leanne reached out immediately with the most detailed and thoughtful email, especially helpful for foreigners like us. She covered everything from farm info to smart tips on saving money for groceries and fuelâÂÂsuch a considerate touch. When we arrived, Leanne went above and beyond by picking us up from the airport and giving us a little tour around Kaikoura. From there, the experience just kept getting more special. We were welcomed into her beautiful farm, got to pat the friendliest farm animals, and even hear sweet stories about each of them, so heartwarming! The house itself is clean, cozy, and full of characterâÂÂadorned with unique art pieces gifted by guests over the years. ItâÂÂs fully equipped with everything we might need and more, including games, a TV, a piano, and even torchlights for nighttime stargazing on the farm. It felt like Leanne had thought of every little detail to make our stay unforgettable. This wasnâÂÂt just a homestayâÂÂit was an experience, one that became one of the most memorable highlights not just of Kaikoura, but of our entire trip to New Zealand. Thank you Leanne for your warmth and hospitality, it really touched our hearts deeply. WeâÂÂll miss this little paradise and will always carry it in a special place in our hearts.

Awesome Eclectic Farm Hideaway
Review by Jon & Terri on 2/13/24, 9:35 PM
We had a wonderful stay and left feeling like family. Starting with a properly tour & introduction to all the farm animals and ending with a photo opp & friendly hugs. The accommodation was clean, spacious and comfortable. We especially enjoyed the outstanding pay it forward pantry allowing us to make a meal without finding a restaurant or going grocery shopping upon arrival. We enjoyed a glass of wine whilst star gazing from the upper balcony. What a fun and enjoyable experience.

Cubby House stay

When planning our NZ road trip holiday, the Cubby House in Kaikoura was always top of the list as a lovely, homely looking place to stay. We managed to book 2 nights ( should have booked sooner!) and as soon as we arrived all 4 of us said âÂÂthis is a place to stay longerâ - next time we will! A great place to rest, unwind, sit on the balcony and soak in the views, cook, eat well and take naps in the very comfy beds. Good for art and creativity! Leanne and family were wonderful hosts, and the animals were a delight, especially Trevor the turkey. Everything was provided including a full breakfast. Strongly recommended for families, friend groups, anyoneâ¦

Perfect family holiday
Review by Chris on 4/12/21, 5:13 PM
This is the best family holiday we have ever had. Three generations of our family were incredibly comfortable, entertained, and pampered in this marvellous home for 3 nights over Easter. The hosts have thought of everything to keep kids happy, and as Leanne said, "If the children are happy, the adults are happy." We arrived in a storm with a 6 year old and a 4 year old who immediately made themselves at home with the huge collection of toys, puzzles, games, books, and drawing and colouring materials on hand. We needn't have brought anything to entertain them. Two days later one of them asked if there was a TV, not having noticed it or even thought about it until then. After the storm we had two days of perfect weather with views of the sea in one direction and of snowy mountains in the other. Leanne showed us all around the farmlet, with special attention to the children, taking them to pat the sheep, goats, and pigs; observe the cows, hens, ducks, and birds; collect eggs, and accompany her on her quad bike (a terrific thrill). The kids were even asked to babysit some newborn chicks overnight! The house is quirky and comfy and perfect for a family. There's no need to worry about kids destroying things, all very child friendly. For adults, it was amazingly well stocked with food and every imaginable condiment. Jokingly one of us asked if there was any vanilla essence to add to cream, and yes, there was. The best surfing beach is only 3 minutes away. The house is on a hill just north of Kaikoura, very quiet and peaceful. Honestly, the hosts were perfect and the holiday couldn't have been better. Thank you so much, Leanne and Richard.
Quite a special place

We were looking for something different while we toured NZ with some friends, and this place worked out great for us -- it is really creative, whimsical, and fun. The hosts were quite pleasant, considerate and entertaining and the property and animals that inhabit it are fun to explore. There was something for everyone and we all found it to be delightful, a great start to our adventures around the South Island.
BOOK HERE - you cant go wrong!

We stayed here and booked for 2 nights. We loved it so much we ended up staying for 5 nights! This place is better stocked than our house. It is relaxing and the views are incredible. The animals are super friendly and we could even help bottle feed some little lambs and calves plus feed and pat the other bigger animals. Leanne and Richard are so nice and welcoming you feel you are part of the family. We even got photos taken of us which we were sent at the end of our trip. This place is a destination to itself and we will be back and tell our friends to stay here as well. It was truely the best place we stayed in NZ after nearly 6 weeks of travelling both North and South Islands. thank you
