About SLY PARK RECREATION AREA

Organized Youth Groups only. Maximum 50 persons. Alcohol Free Zone. 40 private acres, with forest and lake views. Pricing is $4 per person (10 person minimum), per night, with a $20 reservation fee. Tent only, walk in campground with private parking lot 50 yards from camp area. Trail to lake access near the Main Day Use area. Reservation will be confirmed upon receipt of organization name, Tax ID#, and other event information for verification of scout/youth group status. No nightly minimum stays or extra vehicle charges.

Scout Hill cancellations or date of arrival changes are allowed up to 14 days prior to arrival date. Scout Hill non-refundable reservation and change fee is $20 and cancellation fee is $50. Reservation booking and change fees are non-refundable. Please note: Group Area reservations for 2019 will be changing to the same 14 months in advance as all other campsites. All fees due at time of booking.

Vehicle Operation must be confined to designated roads. The speed limit in the campground is 15 miles per hour. No one may ride in the back of a truck or pick-up without seat belts. No one may ride in a boat being towed.

Check IN is at 2:00 PM, Check OUT is at NOON.

Archery and BB gun shooting is prohibited at the Unit level.

Archery and BB gun shooting are restricted to council level day camps, council-managed family camping programs, or to council level activities where there are properly trained supervisors and all standards for BSA shooting sports are enforced. All shooting must adhere to the current National Camp Standards and Boy Scouts of America National Shooting Sports Manual.

No shooting activities other than BB Gun shooting are allowed.

At the time of your reservation, copies of current certifications must be provided to Sly Park Recreation Area. The Range Master must have on their person a current certification while operating the range.

BB gun Range Requirements

Equipment: Smooth bore, spring-piston, or air rifle propelling shot known as BBs. The barrel velocity must be a maximum of 350 feet per second.

Ammunition: BBs only

Range: A BSA-approved range. See page 93 in the BSA National Shooting Sports Manual for range layout information and diagram.

Training: BSA BB gun briefing taught by a BSA range master, National Camping School shooting sports director, or an NRA-certified rifle instructor. The NRA's three rules for safe gun handling will be taught, and the parts of a BB gun will be reviewed. See pages 87, 90, and 95 of the BSA National Shooting Sports Manual.

Participant safety: Eye protection is required for all individuals on the range.

Range supervision: A BSA BB gun Range Master, National Camping School shooting sports director or an NRA­ certified rifle instructor is to directly supervise the range. Training must be renewed every two years, and this person must have current Training Course Certificate, No. 33767. The Range Officer must have on their person a current certification while operating the range.

Ratio: At Least one qualified instructor for every eight shooters AND one adult for each Tiger, Webelo &Cub Scout while he is shooting. These additional adults can be parents or guardians. Additional parents or guardians are not required for Boy Scout events.

Course: Bench rest, prone, or standing. Targets may be paper or resetting metallic targets. Human silhouette and animal targets are prohibited. Make sure equipment is properly stored and locked up when not in use.


Archery Range Requirements

Equipment: Bows are restricted to re-curve only with a maximum draw weight of 20 lbs. for Cub Scouts and Brownies, 25 lbs. for Boy and Girl Scouts. Crossbows are not allowed.

Arrows: Only target arrows may be used. Broad-head or other hunting tips are not allowed.

Range: A BSA-approved range. See page 81 in the BSA National Shooting Sports Manual for range layout information and diagram.

Participant safety: Eye protection is required for all individuals on the range.
Quiver: For each archer, either a personal side quiver or a ground quiver must
be provided to store arrows during shooting.
Finger protection: Each archer must wear a finger tab or glove unless there are “no
gloves” on the string.
Arm protection: Each archer must wear an arm guard on the bow arm.

Range supervision: Range Master must be trained by a National Camping School
shooting sports director and possess a current Training Course Certificate, No. 33767 or possess a USA Archery/NFAA Level 1 archery instructor certification to set and operate an archery range that meets the standards located in Section V of the Boy Scouts of America National Shooting Sports Manual “Archery and BB Guns.”
Archery training must be renewed every two years.
